Waste heat boilers for copper, zinc, lead and aluminium.
Smelting and roasting sulphide concentrates produces some of the hottest, dustiest and most corrosive gases in industry. With over two decades of experience in specialised waste heat recovery, we help improve energy efficiency, steam generation and plant reliability.

Introduction
Copper, zinc and lead all start as sulphide concentrates. Whether the route is a flash or bath smelting furnace, a fluid-bed roaster or a sinter machine, the first step releases a gas stream at very high temperatures that is loaded with dust, carries molten particles and is rich in sulphur dioxide. That gas has to be cooled before it can be cleaned and sent to the sulphuric acid plant, and the cooling step is a waste heat boiler. Done well and the plant gains high-pressure steam and a cleaner gas; done badly and the boiler fails and the plant may have to shut down.
What we bring
- Proprietary smelter and roaster boilers with a multi-pass convection arrangement and water-cooled ducts
- Upstream converter boilers with downstream off-gas boilers
- Specialised online cleaning systems for the high, sticky dust loads of these processes
- Operating references on ISA smelt, flash smelting and fluid-bed roasting
- The second heat-recovery stage as well: the waste heat boiler, gas-gas heat exchangers and air preheaters of the acid plant that follows
- One partner for the whole heat path, from furnace outlet to acid plant

Applications
Copper
Smelting furnace and converter off-gas at up to 1,350 °C with heavy dust. Radiation and convection boilers built for fouling and prevention of accretion, plus the acid plant heat exchangers downstream.

Zinc
Fluid-bed roasting of zinc sulphide releases SO2 gas at 900 to 950 °C. Our roaster boilers handle the dust load and the cycling, and feed the acid plant. Boilers for zinc fumer furnaces as well.

Waste Heat Boilers —AFBC Boilers —CFBC Boilers —Captive Power Plant —BF Gas Fired Boilers
Lead [Pyrite]
Fluid-bed pyrite roasting and lead sintering or bath smelting give SO2-rich gas above 800 °C. We engineer boilers for the dust, the acid dew point and the sulphur chemistry.

Aluminium
Anode baking, petroleum coke calcining and secondary remelt furnaces vent gas from 200 to over 1,000 °C. We engineer heat recovery for the hot streams and heat exchangers for the rest.

Sulphuric Acid Plant
The acid plant that follows every smelter and roaster: waste heat boiler, gas-gas heat exchangers and air preheaters.
